Christ bring redemption

Gospel
Matthew 11:11-15
A greater than John the Baptist has never been seen

Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘I tell you solemnly, of all the children born of women, a greater than John the Baptist has never been seen; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is. Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence and the violent are taking it by storm. Because it was towards John that all the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading; and he, if you will believe me, is the Elijah who was to return. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen!’

Reflection
Who is the greatest in the kingdom of God? Jesus praised John the Baptist as the greatest person born. Who can top that as a compliment? But in the same breath Jesus says that the least in the kingdom of God is even greater than John! That sounds like a contradiction, right? Unless you understand that what Jesus was about to accomplish for our sake would supersede all that the prophets had done and foreseen.

Let us pray
Lord Jesus, by your cross you have redeemed the world. Fill me with joy and confidence and make me a bold witness of your saving truth that others may know the joy and freedom of the Gospel of your kingdom of peace and righteousness.

Amen

We are accountable to Christ

Gospel
Mark 12:35-37
'David himself calls him Lord'

At that time while teaching in the Temple, Jesus said, ‘How can the scribes maintain that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, moved by the Holy Spirit, said:

The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit at my right hand
and I will put your enemies
under your feet.

David himself calls him Lord, in what way then can he be his son?’ And the great majority of the people heard this with delight.

Reflection
As I was reading this text what made our Lord a great speaker. After reading I realise there are four attributes. 1. The ability to send the message effectively. Christ is effective because large crowd listen when he speaks. Secondly he is consistent and knowledgeable as you can see in the text. Thirdly he has a clear message which is about love and mercy. Finally he is accountable to the Father. Today we are hear as followers of Christ.
Do we promote Christ in our action and our word?

Let us pray
Lord Jesus we know we are your followers. May our words and actions justify that.

Amen
